What Is Plein Air Art?
Plein air art (from the French en plein air, meaning “in the open air”) is the practice of creating artwork outside, where the artist paints or draws the subject while physically present in the environment. This method allows artists to capture natural lighting, weather, and atmosphere more realistically than working from photos or inside a studio.
