Annual Meeting and Guest Speaker Presentation

Location: Evangelical Reformed United Church of Christ, 15 W Church St, Frederick

Public welcome! Enjoy a special presentation and an update on the accomplishments of 2019 and plans for 2020. Light refreshments and door prizes. Come meet our Board and volunteers, hear highlights of our past year, and enjoy the company of like-minded supporters of historic buildings and their preservation. Featuring Dr. Gregg Kimball - "Monumental Issues" talk and slide presentation.  Click here for event information.

Special Community Presentation - Dr. Gregg Kimball

Location: Visitor Center, 151 South East Street, Frederick

Dr. Gregg Kimball presents "History, Memory, & Monuments: Engaging Communities Around Our Troubled Past" talk and panel discussion with community leaders. Dr. Kimball is the Director of Public Services and Outreach for the Library of Virginia. After his presentation, local panelists will discuss the challenge of managing/interpreting controversial public monuments in Frederick.  Click here for event information.

Museums by Candlelight

Location: Schifferstadt Architectural Museum​

Enjoy a fun and traditional way to celebrate the holidays at Schifferstadt. Activities include children's crafts, singing carols, hearth-cooking demonstrations, tours, and more! Visit our Gift Shop for unique holiday items, including scherenschnitte, ornaments, pottery, beeswax candles, and toys.

Bell & History Day!

Location: Schifferstadt Architectural Museum​

Schifferstadt opens its doors for the season with this celebration. Bell & History Day is a day when many local museums and historic houses open to the public after being closed during the winter. Come learn about the Brunners and other aspects of Frederick history.

13th Annual Barnstormers Tour and Plein Air Paint Out

​Location: Rocky Ridge/Thurmont Region

Each year barns of a different area of Frederick County are featured; nine barns are featured in 2019. This popular annual, self-guided tour calls attention to these beautiful old structures and their importance to our agricultural heritage. The tour provides a rare opportunity to gain access to some of our most scenic and private farm properties, with tours from specially-trained docents. Delicious food at the host farm, an art show/sale (free, 4-6pm), and music from the foot-stompin' popular local group The Main Line Gravy Soppers!  Click here for more info.

New Paltz Folk Band

Location: Brodbeck Music Hall at Hood College, 501 Brodbeck Drive, Frederick MD

New Paltz, a folk band from Schifferstadt, Germany (Frederick's Sister City), will perform palatine folk songs in their local dialect and in Pennsylvania German. Between songs, band members will explain the history and meaning of the songs in English. Those with German and Pennsylvania Dutch lineage will find much to love!
The band is in the U.S. as part of the Germany Year USA organized by the German Embassy in Washington, D.C. in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut USA and the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin, Germany.

Zion Church and Cemetery Open House

Location: Zion Episcopal Church, Urbana Church Road, Urbana, Maryland

The restored and refurbished, 217-year-old Zion Episcopal Church and cemetery in Urbana will be open to visitors. The opportunity to see inside is rare, the church normally being open only by appointment. Consecrated in 1802, the church was a center of community life in the early Sugarloaf Mountain area of Frederick County, long before there was a village of Urbana.

2019 Historic Preservation Awards Celebration

Location: McClintock Distilling, 35 S. Carroll St, Downtown Frederick

We are pleased to announce our inaugural Historic Preservation Awards event! With the support of the City of Frederick and Frederick County, we will recognize and celebrate the people who contribute their time, capital, and skills to the preservation of historic sites throughout the county. We are excited to be hosting the event at McClintock Distilling, at their historic downtown Frederick location. Please join us for food, music, and spirits, and thank the people who help to maintain the rich cultural heritage of Frederick County.

Learn about FCLF's Plaques Program, its purpose and history, followed by an introduction to house and property research. In partnership with FCPL Maryland Room.

Location: Schifferstadt Architectural Museum​

Rain or shine! Join us for our most popular event, an important fundraiser for the operation of our organization and upkeep of Schifferstadt. Come enjoy great food and drink, lively German music, historic demonstrators, and hand-made products from many arts & crafts vendors. Tours of the museum are available ($4 donation requested) but reserve your time early as we have limited space and our tours sell out quickly. Donations to FCLF are appreciated! We are rounding up volunteers now - call 301-668-6088 or email info@fredericklandmarks.org.
